Life & Money Quotes of the Week: July 02 '23

Keep Your Money! It's all about fees this week. Don't pay them if you can avoid them.

Small Things Add Up

I'm not going for your morning coffee here or anything, so don't worry. More so what this quote gets me thinking about are the purchases that we just make, because we can. We have the money, we can afford it, so we buy it, or we go for drinks, or we take that weekend trip. All of which can be fine. It's not fine though, when you really would have rather used that money for something else. This is how I look at mindless spending: when you just spend money, without really thinking about if it's more important than any other use you could have put the money towards. The opposite of mindless spending, intentional spending, is what happens when you think through your spending before doing it, and know the trade-offs you're making. Intentional spending is what gives you control over your money.

It's Okay To Start Small

I really like this analogy for short-term goals. Starting with something maybe smaller, maybe easier to accomplish, gives you a quicker win and proves that the effort is worth it. You also get something you want while you wait.

There Is Enough

Unfortunately the notion that there is not enough, or that you won't have enough, is quite strong. And it can come from many places. It can come from a genuine concern that people might not be able to pay for their needs in the future. But it can also come from a place where I get more if you have more, so let's make sure you want more. Either way, you're better off figuring out what your 'enough' is.
